Fashion media update – fashion for Winter 2011

More choice, more shape with underwear this winter

Every woman knows that what’s worn underneath is as important as the outfit on top. Which is why this winter, H&M’s underwear provides not only the pattern and details to create a total look, but also brings a new bra style to provide new shape, too. The new Super Push bra maximises cup size and accentuates the body’s curves. Available in colours such as purple, light gold or black with a touch of red, or in patterns such as zebra or Japanese flowers, the tops and bottoms can be mixed and matched to create an individual look. Alongside the Super Push are other new essentials, such as long kimono wraps and matching satin trousers, giving underwear a key role in fashion at H&M this winter.

H&M celebrates Christmas with celebrities and UNICEF

Figures from the world of film, fashion, art and music come together with their loved ones for H&M’s Christmas season campaign, which is raising money for UNICEF. The campaign celebrates the value of togetherness – so Karen Elson is photographed with her sister Kate, while Georgia Jagger appears with her mother, Jerry Hall. Bryan Ferry is photographed with his son Tara, while Abbey Lee appears with her boyfriend, Matthew Hutchinson. Everyone is dressed in white with winter sparkle as a unifying theme. To show the true spirit of the season, part of the sales of selected garments will be donated to UNICEF. A special hangtag will be attached to the garments, from which around one pound from each sale will be donated by H&M to UNICEF, matching the cost of one week’s schooling for one child in Bangladesh.

Fashion book featuring Versace makes the perfect Christmas gift

To celebrate this season’s exclusive designer collaboration with Versace, H&M will be selling TASCHEN’s essential guide to 21st century fashion, 100 Contemporary Fashion Designers. It’s an A-Z of every important fashion designer in the world today, and of course under the letter V can be found Donatella Versace, one of the most famous figures in fashion, and the woman behind the Versace for H&M collection. The book will be sold in every store that stocks the Versace for H&M collection, around 300 stores worldwide, and will be available for six months. It also features other designers who have collaborated with H&M, such as Alber Elbaz of Lanvin, Karl Lagerfeld and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons.

Ann-Sofie Johansson’s favourites

“Winter is the time of year when it pays to be versatile,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s Head of Design. “I’m going for a relaxed style with loose separates that can be dressed up or down for work and evening,” she says. “Cropped trousers or leather shorts with a top and sleeveless jacket, a tunic or a blouse look perfect with flats or boots for day. For evening, I’d put on some high heel shoes with socks or tights and jewellery.” As always, accessories provide the perfect finishing touches, especially if they add something new to an individual look. “An eighties drawstring handbag feels new, and I might dare to wear a hat this season…”

For men, knitwear has become the centrepiece of the winter wardrobe. “Knitwear looks spectacular this season,” says Ann-Sofie. “The marled scoop neck jersey, nautical cotton sweater and side-zipped cardigan with shawl collar are all as comfy as they are cool.” Knits play a key role in a mix of clothing that together creates a personal style. “Shirts are brilliant in classic white or Madras check, or made from denim with a leather pocket, and the leather collar tux is a perfect tailored essential that looks great with jeans and a white T-shirt.”

Exclusive! First look at what’s new for spring 2012 at H&M

A first peek at H&M’s Spring 2012 collection shows femininity and colour are high on the agenda, with fresh shades of yellow, orange and apple green emerging as accent colours. Shapes are fluid with volume, providing a contrast to a strong theme of tailoring, centring around the chalk white suit. And when it comes to the accessories, it’s all about the white sunglasses…
