High fashion profile at H&M this autumn

‘In my view, H&M are positive egalitarians’, says legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who has created a one off, unique collection for H&M this autumn. H&M are thrilled to offer both the ladies and menswear collection ‘Karl Lagerfeld for H&M’, at H&M prices. The collection will be available in selected stores in all 20 markets in Europe and North America from November 12.

‘I have done, for H&M what I do for Chanel, Fendi and Lagerfeld Gallery, which is what people wear the way H&M can do it’, says Karl Lagerfeld. ‘It’s a kind of basic wardrobe with everything: jeans, T-shirts, knits, daywear and even some dresses. My concept of ready-to-wear today at whatever level is that it has to be as good as the most expensive brand. Design is very important and design is not a question of price only.’

The collection is distinctly Lagerfeld’s signature: modern, elegant and flattering. Slim silhouettes in black and white with accent colours of brick red and plum. Razor sharp tailored pieces in fine wool, a slim cut classic wool coat, starch-fresh cotton shirts and narrow knits that flatter everyone. A gorgeous, glamorous sequined ladies jacket. Beautifully layered silk chiffon and organza dresses, tops and skirts with frills or ruffles. Shiny silk or chiffon lingerie with lace trims. Perfectly cut jeans in two different washes. To complete the look, there is also a range of accessories. Sunglasses, belts, gloves, ties, a bag and jewellery for both women and men. There will also be an exclusive fragrance, the same for women and men.

‘We wanted to prove that design and quality doesn’t have to cost more than most people can afford’, says H&M’s Head of Design Margareta van den Bosch. ‘Naturally, we do this all the time working with the great H&M design team, but it’s exciting to work with one of the most high profile fashion designers in the world. We feel it’s like a gift to our customers. An invitation to another dimension in the fashion business at it’s best.’

‘I think that the idea of ‘Karl Lagerfeld for H&M’ is very interesting in terms of the history of fashion’, concludes Karl Lagerfeld. ‘It’s modern. The days when designers could lose their jobs because it was linked to a collection for an inexpensive brand are over. H&M has made inexpensive desirable. Today this is fashion.’
