New H&M collection features organic cotton

This spring collection from H&M introduces a desirable fashion range for women, teens, children and babies. The clothing line, featuring organically grown cotton, will be available in selected stores in all H&M markets from March 2007.

‘These clothes are great pieces of the moment. They combine a conscious choice of materials with the latest design, allowing you to look just as good on the outside as you feel on the inside,’ says H&M’s head of design Margareta van den Bosch.

Women
For women (size 34-44) it’s all about clean-cut romanticism with wide A-line dresses, tunics, blouses and fine jersey tops teamed with leggings. In addition, there are sweatshirt couture pieces, a bra and hot pants. At H&M Mama (size S-XL) there are similar tunics and leggings, as well as an ingenious nursing top. Colours are neo trendy and vegetal-dye-inspired, like potato, aubergine, lime, dusty rose and grey melange.

Teens
At H&M &denim the organic cotton range is built on jeans, T-shirts and sweatshirts. Jeans are narrow or wide, long or short. For girls (size 32-42) there are front print T-shirts and tank tops, wide T-shirt dresses and tunics, and a sweatshirt dress and jacket. Tops for boys (size S-XL) include front print T-shirts, tank tops and sweatshirt styles.

Children and babies
For girls (size 86-116) there are sweet romantic dresses and separates matching the ladies’ range. For babies (size 62-86) there is a selection of front printed T-shirts and leggings, while for newborns (size 44-62) white is in evidence in bodysuits and separates with pretty prints and patchwork.

Organic cotton – more than just a trend at H&M

Organic cotton is cotton grown without the use of harmful pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.

The annual world production of organic cotton is still very limited and represents less than one per cent of all cotton.

In order to increase the demand for organic cotton and thereby encourage cotton growers to convert to organic cultivation, H&M started to use organic cotton a few years ago. At the start, it was included mainly in a selection of babies’ and children’s garments. H&M has subsequently worked towards using an increased amount of organic cotton. In addition, H&M became a member of Organic Exchange, an organisation that promotes organic cotton worldwide, in 2003.
